Seven Natural Wonders of The World

Shall we take a look at the seven natural wonders of the world? Some of them are Grand Canyon, Great Barrier reef, puricutin volcano, etc.

All of us would have heard about wonders of the world that include Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal, Great Pyramid of Giza, etc.; how many of us know the seven natural wonders of the world? Here is a list of seven natural wonders of the world.

1. The Grand Canyon:

# The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon in the Arizona state, United States of America.
# Grand Canyon was created by the Colorado River. This canyon is 277 miles long, width ranges between 4 and 18 miles, and nearly 1 mile deep.
# This natural wonder of the world’s creation dates back to millions of years ago. Colorado River started its journey of building the Grand Canyon nearly 17 million years ago.
# It is believed that the Pueblo people considered Grand Canyon to be a holy site and made pilgrimage tours to it.
# The most spectacular views of the Grand Canyon can be got from three places; these places are St. George, Colorado City and Pipe Spring National Monument. One may even opt for the helicopter view to look at the natural wonder, Grand Canyon

2. Great Barrier Reef:


1. This is the largest reef in the world and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. This reef consists of 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands.

2. Great Barrier Reef is located in the Coral Sea. This reef stretches over 1,600 miles.

3. Two unique facts about Great Barrier Reef are:

a. A structure that can be seen from outer space.

b. Single biggest structure in the world created by living organisms.

4. The tourism in this area generates nearly AU$ 1 billion a year.

5. The best way or the most spectacular view of Great Barrier Reef can be got by looking through the lens of an underwater mask. If you love snorkeling or scuba diving, you can get a better look at the Great Barrier Reef.

3. Harbor of Rio de Janeiro:

# Harbor of Rio de Janeiro is also called as the Guanabara Bay.
# When measured with volume of water as the base, this is the largest bay in the world.
# In Portuguese, Rio de Janeiro means “River of January.”
# Harbor of Rio de Janeiro is located in Brazil.
# This is surrounded by Granite Mountains.

4. Mount Everest:


# Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
# It is 8,848 meters above sea level.
# It is located in the Himalayas on the Nepal – China (Tibet) border.
# The best way to see Mount Everest is either to trek; however, one may also use a guided flight.
# Tibetans call Mount Everest as “Mount Chomolungma”, which means “Holy Mother.”

5. Aurora Borealis:

# Aurora Borealis was named after the Roman goddess of dawn called Aurora and a Greek name for the north wind Boreas.
# Aurora means natural display of light in the sky especially in the polar region. These are also referred as polar auroras or polar lights.
# Auroras are more prominent in Northern Hemisphere when compared with Southern Hemisphere.

3. Victoria Falls is located in southern Africa.
4. A famous feature of Victoria Falls is the naturally formed pool called “Devil’s pool.”
5. The best way to see Victoria Falls is by taking a helicopter.
