Improved Memory and Learning: Only Perfect Practice Makes Perfect ImprovedMemory
You have heard the adage that "practice makes perfect", unfortunately, that is not necessarily true. It is perfectly possible to practice mistakes until you can repeat your mistake perfectly, every time.

Example one:

Your dad teaches you to drive and you learn and automatise all his bad habits. Then you have to spend three months unlearning your automatised BAD driving habits.

Example two:
You learned to type by the "no -method, method", and you automatise all kinds of bad typing habits. Later, it takes you three times longer to learn proper the touch-typing technique, because you have to break deeply ingrained bad habits.

Here is the point: ONLY perfect practice makes perfect.

Careless practice of a skill may be even worse than useless:
It may be counterproductive.
It is counterproductive, because you will be practicing and perfecting an error.

This error is automatised by your subconscious mind and becomes the pattern for all further action. You will have a devil of a job UN-learning the error and re-establishing the correct pattern. So what do I mean by "ONLY Perfect practice makes perfect". I mean that your practice technique should be excellent.

How do you do that?

Learn the following steps:

The Deliberate Practice Formula:

1. Approach each critical task with an explicit goal of getting much better at it. Set goals that are just beyond your level of competency.
2. As you do the task, focus on what's happening and why you're doing it the way you are.
3. After the task, get feedback on your performance from multiple sources. Don't get emotional about any critical feedback you receive: Simply make changes (improvements) in your behaviour as necessary.
4. Continually build mental models of your situation -. As you progress, expand the models to encompass more factors.
5. Practice regularly: Occasional practice does not work. Consistency is the key.
6. Don't stress.
7. Relax and understand that learning often takes place subconsciously. Your job is to feed your subconscious mind. Don't send it error messages. Send it ONLY the good stuff.
